Laboratory notebook contains notes on Koenig's experiments with schorlomite; also results of assays on a variety of minerals sent to him by a number of individuals. Describes his research and business interactions with Dr. William Pepper, Dr. C. M. Cresson, Dr. Chapman, Dr. White, Dr. Foote, Professor L. M. Haupt, Clarence S. Bement and others. He analyzed mineral samples sent to him from Pike's Peak and other Colorado mining sites, from Virginia and St. Louis, from Rio de Janeiro, and from his own collections from locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. One interesting passage describes an autopsy on the stomach of a man named Caufield from Iowa, an exhibitor at the Centennial exhibition in Philadelphia, who was believed to have died from morphine poisoning.
